Library
Cards
In order to apply
for a Henika District Library card an adult must present a valid State of
Michigan driver's license or ID with the current local address on it. If either
of those cannot be used we will accept two other forms of ID that have the
current local address, such as printed checks, a health insurance card, a copy
of a lease agreement or a paid utility bill stub, in any combination. Children
under the age of eighteen must have a parent accompanying them who will act as
co-signer on the borrowing agreement. Parents must produce identification as
mentioned above.
Replacement library
cards will be created for a $2.00 fee if your card has been lost, stolen or
damaged such that the bar code can no longer be scanned.
For residents who
live outside the legal area of the Henika District Library we will issue you a
library card for your home library if you live in Dorr, Hopkins, Leighton
Township or Middleville. All others will receive a temporary card to use until
your home library issues a permanent card and mails it to you.
Martin residents
will be issued a no-fee non-resident card. (The J.C. Wheeler Library does not
participate in the automated shared circulation system of the Lakeland Library
Cooperative.) Their borrowing will be limited to the collection in the Henika
District Library. To have full interlibrary loan privileges throughout the
Lakeland Cooperative an annual fee of $80.00 will be assessed.
Residents of Orangeville or other municipalities outside
the boundaries of the Lakeland Library Cooperative will be charged an annual
$30.00 non-resident fee for a Henika District Library card. (Please note that
Orangeville residents have free library services from Delton. All Michigan
municipalities do receive free library service somewhere.)
Loan Periods
The Henika District
Library lends its materials for two distinct lengths of time:
v
Magazines and videos (VHS or DVD) 7 days
v
All other materials 21 days
When you check out
materials you will be given a receipt listing each item and its due date.
You may sign up for
email notification which will send you email three days prior to the due date of
your materials as a courtesy reminder. This service will also let you know when
items on hold are available for pick-up, and when items are overdue.
Overdue Fines
Overdue fines
accumulate at a rate of 15 cents per day for all items except videos which
accumulate at $1.00 per day. Maximum book fines are $4.95 per book.
After Hours Item Return
There is a slot at
the south side entrance of the library for return of items when the library is
closed. Because of their fragility, items that may not be placed
through this drop include audio books, DVDs, computer software and music CDs.
Any of these items that are deposited in this return will be assessed a fee of $2.00 each
plus charges for any damage done to any item.
Suspension of Borrowing
Privileges
A patrons
borrowing privileges are suspended when he has two or more items overdue from
the library, or when fines on overdue materials exceed $1.99.
Cell Phones, Pagers and
Two-way Radios
Cell phones, pagers
and two-way radios are to be turned off before a patron enters the building.
Computer Use
The Henika District
Library has three patron Internet access workstations and one word processing
workstation. In order to use any of these computers we ask that you read over
our acceptable use policy and sign a user agreement. This is a one-time
formality after which you need only present your library card at the circulation
desk to determine that there are no delinquencies on your account in order to
use a computer.
The Henika District
Library does use a filtering system on its network to protect against sexually
undesirable content. Filtering, however, is an imperfect tool, and patrons are
forewarned that this is no guarantee against offensive material appearing. If
